Andrew Hilton Wine Tastings/Events
- Check out our Calendar for a full listing of our upcoming Events.
- Free weekend Wine Tastings every Friday and Saturday after 2 PM.
- Our Free Fall Whiskey Weekends
- Our tremendously popular course in Scotch appreciation that runs generally from the last weekend in September thru the second weekend in December, now entering its 8th season.
- Book Your Own Tasting: Wine tasting parties are a fantastic way to get people together, and we make planning them a breeze. We are available for private tastings January thru May, and September thru November. We will deliver the wines, and one of our experts, anywhere in the city to deliver an educational and entertaining talk for anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. The number of wines, the subject matter, red or white, wine, scotch, rum or beer, its all up to you and we will do all the legwork and research to make the event a success. Owing to a lack of space in the store, we are generally unable to book private tasting events in the store, but exceptions have been made in the past, so feel free to inquire.
Free Friday Tasting: September 3rd & 4th
Alpha Box & Dice Release Tasting!
Alpha Box & Dice is almost certainly the most exciting brand we'll be premiering this fall, as they offer a combination of stunning winemaking talent, innovative blending, and gorgeous packaging to produe wines that make a statement both on the table, and on the palate. We have been fortunate enough to get 4 wines, of which I have tried one, The Fog, last night, and it was pretty spectacular. We're super excited about this line, and for this tasting. There's already a ton of buzz about these wines both internationally and among our staff, so try these while they last!
Free Friday Tastings run from 4:30 until close on a drop-in basis every Friday night. The wines will also generally be available on a limited basis the following Saturday.
AB & D "The Fog" Nebbiolo/Cabernet/Tannat
AB & D "Dead Winemakers Society" Dolcetto
AB & D "The Apostle" Shiraz/Durif
AB & D "Blood of Jupiter" Sangiovese/Cabernet
Monthly Mocha Tasting: September 6th
The Wines of Sicily
Geographically, Sicily is close to the rest of Italy, but culturally it's a world away. Traditionally, Sicilians have drank less wine than any other region of Italy. Not only that, up until the 1970s, Sicilian wines were an absolute joke. Marsala, long Sicily's most identifiable wine, was thought to be a pale shadow of its former self, most often sweetned and flavoured, with coffee or chocolate or cherry syrups, it was a confection moreso than a wine, and few in the wine world had any respect for it. A crying shame for a wine that can trace it's roots back to the early Roman Empire. Sicily has, over the past 30 years gone from a backwater of dispassionately made, undrinkable wines, to one of the most interesting, vibrant, and enthusiastic regions of the Old World. Lead on by a completely rejuvenated Marsala industry with a new focus on quality, as well as the emergence of the native Nero d'Avola grape as a rising star on the international stage, Sicily has a bright future, which we will showcase this month.
The Monday Mocha Tasting is held the first (non-holiday) Monday of every month at Mocha Cabana (317 - 4 Street South), at 7PM. This is a light, guided tasting of 4 wines, with appetizers prepared by Mocha Cabana. The cost is always $20, tickets available at the door or by calling 403-329-6243
Wines:
Cusumano Insolia
La Mura Nero d'Avola
Cusumano "Benuara"
San Pellegrino Marsala Fine
Free Friday Tasting: September 10th & 11th
Sticky Wines
As it cools off outside, I feel we should take a look at the world's famed dessert styles, especially the fortified wines. There are several famous styles, from the very famous Port and Sherry, to the rather less famous (but incredibly delicious) Madeira and Marsala, which too few people have been fortunate enough to sample, to the growing trend of Rutherglen Muscat from Australia. This tasting will sample an example of each of these styles, and allow you to try some things you may never have experimented with before.
Free Friday Tastings run from 4:30 until close on a drop-in basis every Friday night. The wines will also generally be available on a limited basis the following Saturday
Senhora do Convento Late Bottled Vintage Port 1997
Lustau East India Solera Sherry
Leacock's Rainwater Madeira
San Pellegrino Marsala Fine
